A quartz worktop template records the installed kitchen so the supplier can manufacture the surface to fit. The cabinets normally need to be in their final, secure positions, with the relevant sink, hob and design details agreed. Your chosen worktop supplier must confirm the exact readiness requirements before the visit.
Templating is an appointment with dependencies. If the room is not ready, the consequence may be another visit and a changed installation schedule. Ask for the supplier’s checklist when you order, not the evening before the surveyor arrives.
What is the template visit for?
The supplier uses the visit to establish the dimensions and details needed to make the worktop. That can include the shape, edges, openings, joins and relationship to the walls and cabinets. The precise method depends on the supplier.
A showroom plan is useful when discussing a quote, but it is not a substitute for the supplier’s final measurement process. Installed conditions matter. Confirm who signs off the details and how you will check the choices recorded at the visit.
Keep the final kitchen plan, worktop order and appliance model information available. If a design choice has changed, tell the supplier before they travel.
What should you confirm before booking?
Howdens’ template-and-fit guide describes readiness checks for its own service. Use your actual supplier’s instructions as the authority for your appointment. Do not assume all companies need exactly the same setup.
Ask these questions in writing:
- Which cabinets, panels and supports must be installed before templating?
- Must the sink, tap, hob or cooker be on site, and in what condition?
- Which product instructions or templates does the surveyor need?
- Who confirms overhangs, edges, joins and splashback details?
- Is the proposed access route suitable for measurement and fitting?
- What changes after the template would require another visit?
Send the answers to the kitchen fitter. A checklist kept only in the homeowner’s inbox does not help the person preparing the room.
What happens between templating and fitting?
Ask the supplier for its current manufacture and fitting arrangements. Do not book the final connections around an assumed turnaround time. Confirm the date, what the room needs to look like when the fitting team returns and who needs to be there.
Plan how you will manage without the finished worktop. Ask explicitly whether any temporary surface or sink arrangement is included, who would provide it and whether it is suitable. Avoid assuming that a template visit leaves you with a usable kitchen that evening.
Our installation timeline guide explains how the worktop stage relates to the rest of the job. The schedule needs to account for the supplier and the installer together.
Who handles the sink and appliance connections?
Get a named responsibility for each task. A worktop fitting service and a plumbing or electrical service are different parts of the project. Ask who disconnects anything affected, who reconnects it and when the work can safely happen.
Tell the supplier if you want to reuse a sink or appliance. They should explain what information and checks they need. Do not assume an existing opening or fitting can be reused unchanged.
If the worktop is part of a refurbishment, send photographs of the cabinets and current surface before requesting a quote. The condition and suitability of what remains need attention too.
What should you discuss with Matthew 633?
We offer quartz worktop supply and fitting around Watford. Send Dan the kitchen plan, approximate dimensions, preferred finish and any sink or hob choices already made.
Say whether the worktop is part of a new installation or a replacement on existing units. We can discuss suitability, the scope of the quotation and how the worktop stage will be coordinated. Product choice, availability and dates should be confirmed for your project before booking.
